Changes to invoicing

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Following feedback from our customers we are making a minor change to our invoicing.

Currently you receive an invoice 7 days before the due date and then a reminder one day before the due date. This has now changed – You will continue to receive a reminder 7 days before the due date but you will no longer receive a reminder the day before.

If you do not currently have an automated subscription for your account then we strongly recommend that you set one up to ensure that your payment reaches us on or before your invoice due date.

If you have any questions regarding this annoucement, please don’t hesitate to contact us :)

Standalone Internet Explorer

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Like most web developers we have to test each design in multiple browsers. Currently we test in Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, Opera & Safari which means having to us a Virtual Machine in order to run multiple versions of Internet Explorer. Frankly it’s a nightmare!

With Internet Explorer 8 now officially released it means that we also have to test that too but with Internet Explorer 6 now officially dead we will no longer be supporting it.

Things have just got a little easier though. Today i found a fantastic FREE tool which allows you to test a design in IE6, IE7 & IE8 without having to use Virtual Machine or having to hack Internet Explorer to be able to run multiple versions of it.

IETester works on XP & Vista and is truly a fantastic piece of software! It emulates IE5.5, IE6, IE7,  and IE8. Although FREE it is still being actively developed which hopefully means that future versions of IE will be added as and when. It’s very simple to install and run and is essential for all developers :)

The sad death of Jade Tweed

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Following on from my post HERE i am very sad to report that Jade passed away at 3:55am this morning in her sleep with her husband and Mother by her side.

Jade’s grief-stricken Mother Jackiey emerged from the house this morning in her pajamas and told reporters: “My beautiful daughter is at peace.”  Jackiey and Jack now have to break the terrible news to her two boys, Freddie & Bobby.

Apparently Jade had been in a coma-like state for the last 48 hours with no idea about what was going on around her.

Jade’s publicist Max Clifford said: “I think she’s going to be remembered as a young girl who has, and who will, save an awful lot of lives.

“She was a very, very brave girl.

“And she faced her death in the way she faced her whole life – full on, with a lot of courage.”

Mr Clifford also paid tribute to the efforts of Jade’s husband, saying: “Jack has been absolutely amazing, nursing her to the end.”

He added: “She died having been in a deep sleep for the past 24 hours. Jack was there and her mum was there.”

Plans are now being made for the funeral. However Jack could apparently miss the service as he faces a court appearance on Thursday.

He will be sentenced for attacking a taxi driver and could face a custodial sentence of up to six months in prison.

My sympathies go out to Jack, Jackiey, Jeff, her two boys and the rest of her family and friends.

R.I.P Jade. Thank you for bringing a face to this terrible disease.

I found a great website today that gives you an estimate on how much your website is worth. Obviously this is just for fun and if you are considering selling your website then a professional estimate should be taken ;)

Calling all mobile phone users

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I’m never satisfied with my mobile and although im on a yearly contract & receive a new phone every year it always ends up on eBay 6 months later ready for me to buy a new one.

Then there’s the ringtones, graphics and games and again im never satisfied LOL!

I’m currently hooked on Britney Spears Womanizer song and although i have the MP3 i didn’t want to have to try and cut it up to get the perfect ringtone from it. So i started searching for it online.

I found this fantastic website that not only had the MP3 ringtone but has thousands of others along with all the latest games and great graphics. I then spent the next hour scrutinising their TOS because it advertises as everything for FREE but im i’ve been burnt by this con before and i was damn sure i wouldn’t get cought out again. I for one am sick to death of all these ringtone sites that con you in to paying a weekly fee or worse!

To my amazement everything really is FREE! No cons! No registration required! No download fees! No monthly fees! FREE really does mean FREE! All you have to do is visit their site via your phone, enter a code and click on the download button.

So having downloaded Womanizer and a couple of other tracks to be sure that i wasn’t going to be charged for anything i thought i must let all our readers know about this great site :D

So here it is: http://www.cellsea.com. I would really love to hear feedback from anyone who uses it so please post your experience below :)

Have fun!

The importance of submitting your website to directories

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Directory Submission is one of the indirect ways to earn one way inbound links.

With the popularity of search engine spiders, software that robotically browse the Web looking for websites to add to a search engine. Directory submission is a great tool for webmasters. Popular websites such as MSN and Yahoo are still using directories and users who are looking for sites in a genre often use directories as a way to quickly find the services they want to find.

Guide Lines:

  • Do not submit your website to the directory before your website is completed.
  • Provide with a good description of your website and make sure that your description is appealing to the viewer.
  • Fill up the every required text field in the form.
  • Give the current working email address in the form.
  • Web Directories generally do not accept websites that redirect to other link.

R1Soft – The Ultimate Backup System!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Continuous Data Protection: Now included FREE with all accounts!

Accidentally deleted or overwritten a file? No problem – in just a few clicks you can instantly restore R1Soft Logoyour files, or even entire directories!

As part of our commitment to provide the best possible service we have made a considerable investment to provide this exciting new feature to all our clients, absolutely free of charge.

About Continuous Data Protection

The system is constantly running, taking incremental backups of all data every 12 hours (every 6 hours for Business+ accounts), and we store multiple revision so that there are always 7 versions of your files available! This means that should you accidentally delete data, or need to restore a previous version of a file for any reason, you can choose from:

  • Earlier Today (up to 12 hours ago)
  • Last Week
  • Two weeks ago
  • Last month

In the event of a serious hardware failure or other data loss we can also restore an entire server in a short space of time.

Where are the backups stored?

All backups are stored separately to your hosting account, on a RAID 5 dedicated server.

We have plans in the near-future to replicate this in turn to an off-site location.

How do I access this system?

To access the R1Soft system, just click its button (as shown in the image below) in cPanel, then login to the interface with your cPanel username and password.

R1Soft System Backup

Disclaimer

While we do our best to make sure all your data is safe, we cannot guarantee this – we strongly recommend keeping your own backups, which you can easily do via the standard Backup button in cPanel or by downloading your website via FTP to your PC.
